THERE’S A LITTLE DROP OF WATER ON MY BATHROOM WALL
I’M WATCHIN’ AND A-WOND’RIN’ WHEN IT’S GONNA FALL
IT’S MOVING OH, SO SLOWLY AND IT DON’T SEEM TO CARE
IF IT SHOULD HIT THE GROUND OR EVAPORATE INTO THE AIR
FOR NOW IT’S JUST HANGIN’ THERE
THIS LITTLE DROP OF WATER ON THE WALL

WHILE I’M WATCHING AND A-WOND’RING, IT OCCURS TO ME
THIS LITTLE DROP OF WATER HAS SOME HISTORY
THIS SURE MUST BE SOME WELL-TRAVELED HUMIDITY
SO WHAT BROUGHT IT ROUND RIGHT HERE
TO LAND IN FRONT OF ME
SO I ASKED IT, “WHAT’S YOUR STORY?”
THIS LITTLE DROP OF WATER ON THE WALL

IT USED TO BE THE OCEAN TUGGING AT THE MOON
ONCE IT WAS A STAR UPON A ROSE
ONE DAY IT EXPLODED FROM A WATER BALLOON
ONCE IT LEAPT FROM THE SKY ONTO EINSTEIN’S NOSE

IT SWAM THROUGH THE GILL OF A SILVERY FISH
IT ROLLED DOWN THE CHEEK OF A CHILD
WITH A PENNY AND A WELL, IT GAVE WINGS TO A WISH
IT WAS SWEATED FROM THE TONGUE OF SOMETHING WILD

IT GLISTENED WITH EXCITEMENT ON AN ASTRONAUT’S NECK
WAY UP IN OUTER SPACE, FOR HEAVEN’S SAKE
IT DROOLED FROM THE TOOTH OF A TYRANNOSAURUS REX
IT MOISTENED GRANNY’S BIRTHDAY CAKE

IT KISSED THE MISSISSIPPI AND SPLASHED IN THE SEINE
AND GAVE A THIRSTY MAN A NEEDED DRINK
IT MADE SUDS WITH MY SOAP AND AVOIDED THE DRAIN
THEN IT LANDED ON THE WALL NEXT TO MY BATHROOM SINK

THERE’S A LITTLE DROP OF WATER ON MY BATHROOM WALL
AND I’M NO LONGER WONDRIN’ IF IT’S GONNA FALL
WHILE I WAS THERE A-WAITIN’, IT OCCURRED TO ME
THAT, LIKE THIS LITTLE DROP OF WATER,
I HAVE SOME HISTORY
BUT WHATEVER I’VE DONE YEAR TO YEAR
ONE THING HAS BECOME SO VERY CLEAR
RIGHT NOW I’M JUST HANGING HERE
WITH THIS LITTLE DROP OF WATER … ON THE WALL
