Reiki – Wellness Through Sound & Touch

As a singer and songwriter, Teri Wilder believes in the healing power of sound. In 2005, she began writing songs specifically for the New Thought churches where she has been singing for a decade. From her current home in San Diego, she continues to write music for churches, retreats, seminars, and conferences, and her songs are heard across the country in support of these and other events. Fun fact, Teri’s melodic tunes have been used in over 98 commercials. In 2013, Teri became a Gong Master. Now, as a Certified Reiki Master, she combines the two energy modalities for a more powerful experience of sound healing.

Reiki is a Japanese technique used for reducing stress and increasing relaxation, promoting rejuvenation and well-being. This ancient technique is based on the principle that the practitioner can channel energy into the patient by means of touch. The stimulation activates the natural rejuvenation processes of the patient’s body and helps restore physical and emotional well-being. Teri is proud to step into the world of Reiki, and by creating an intimate space for helping others, Teri is able to help herself. A healthy practitioner can provide greater benefits for clients. Teri aims to be of service to anyone who feels stressed, is in physical discomfort/pain, in the midst of life transition, has trouble sleeping, feels emotional instability, or simply wants to maintain a good balance in their well-being.

Receiving my first Reiki and Sound Healing experience from Teri awakened a part of my subconsciousness that had been asleep for some time. I didn’t realize the amount of heaviness I had been carrying around, related to the stagnant energy within me. I left the session feeling lighter and aware of who I really am. The time spent with her was such a blessing for my soul, heart, mind, and body!

Flutes of the World

I was in the hospital recovering from major surgery when I first experienced Teri’s amazing Reiki healings. I was in a lot of pain and felt so miserable I couldn’t even speak. Experiencing Teri’s incredible loving presence and powerful Reiki healings was a turning point in my recovery.

Frequent Questions about Reiki

What is Reiki?

“Reiki” is a combination of two Japanese words: Rei and Ki. Together, these two words mean “Universal Energy” or “Life Force Energy”. Reiki is a healing technique based on the principle that the practitioner can channel energy into the patient by means of touch, activating the natural healing processes of the patient’s body to restore physical and emotional well-being.

What are the benefits of Reiki? What results might I expect?

Everyone will have their own unique experience during and after a Reiki session. The most common benefits of Reiki are feelings of relaxation, stress relief, release of pain, and overall lightness. It’s also possible to experience some mild discomfort — both during and after a session — due to the release of toxins stored in the body that Reiki sends out. This is why drinking lots of water and further resting after a session is highly encouraged.

What level of Reiki training are you?

There are three levels of Reiki Training. Entry-level students learn about the history, self-Reiki, and how to give Reiki to others. In the second-level, Reiki Practitioners learn how to perform distance Reiki techniques and spend time with energy work. The third and final level is considered the Master Teacher level. Teri has achieved this level and is a Certified Reiki Master.

What do I need to do to prepare for a session?

Before a session, it is best to come prepared with an intention of what areas you’d like healing (physical ailments, a challenging situation, unhealthy thinking, etc.). Gently putting yourself in the right frame of mind will help create a beneficial session.

Do I need to bring anything?

Bring a good attitude, or the goal to lose a lousy one if you’re carrying one with you. In your mind, you should hold an intention as to what you want to experience. Also, it’s wise to hydrate well after a session, so you may want to bring a bottle of water.

What should I wear?

Wear what you are comfortable in, preferably loose clothing that doesn’t constrict. You will remain fully clothed during the session, but will be asked to remove your shoes. So check your socks for holes, if that’s important to you.

What happens during a session?

First, Teri will ask you a few grounding questions to gain some insight into your life and discuss your intention for the session. You will then lie on a comfortable massage table, fully clothed, and Teri will begin the session using light touch.

How long is a session?

A Reiki session is about 1 hour. A combined Reiki & Sound Healing session is 90 minutes. So be sure to plan your appointments accordingly. You won’t want to hear your phone ringing or alarms sounding to remind you of an upcoming meeting.

How often should I have a session?

Reiki will make you feel good, so you can have sessions as frequently as you want! Like all fitness, Reiki works even better when part of a maintenance plan. Consider buying a package to keep you on track and healthy.

Is it safe to drive after a session?

Your experience of Reiki could be similar to a satisfying nap. You may feel slightly groggy and blissfully relaxed after a session, rather than laser focused. It’s best to be fully back in your body (grounded) before you leave, and definitely before you drive. Proper grounding can include talking, body movement, drinking water, eating a snack, walking barefoot, and stepping outside for a bit. Allow time and don’t rush to your next commitment.

Does it ever hurt or cause discomfort?

There is no pain involved, as you are simply receiving light touch. Occasionally, someone will experience a release of stuck energy, which may cause a period of mild discomfort, but which will dissipate as the energy moves through a certain area.

Are there any follow-up instructions after a session?

Yes. Drink lots of water, rest, stay away from toxins (junk food, alcohol, noise), eat lightly, and focus on gentle self-care.

Is Reiki a religion or a spiritual practice?

Reiki is neither a religion nor a spiritual practice. It is a modality of moving energy to support wellness in areas you on which you wish to focus.

I’ve heard that you can send Reiki long-distance. Is that correct?

Since everything is energy, there really is no distance. With that knowledge, Reiki can be given to anyone, anywhere, at any time. As a Reiki Master, Teri also utilizes Power Symbols given during training that further activate the energy being sent to someone not physically present.

Can you give Reiki to anyone of any age?

People of all ages enjoy Reiki. Everyone has a unique experience, but it’s those who can make the time for it who have the most positive results.

Can you give Reiki to animals & pets?

Animals of all types respond very well to Reiki. Those who are in tune with their pets notice immediate differences in their behavior. Coordinate calendars with your beloved pet, and schedule an appointment with Teri. They will absolutely love it!
